Letters from our readers you can learn from.<\/p>\n<p><\/strong>========================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. &#8220;Are You Sure Your Horse Understands YOU?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been riding long you no doubt have had a<br \/>\nhorse not do something you asked him to do&#8230;.or<br \/>\nperhaps he just balked.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps when you asked he just stood there<br \/>\nand you thought quietly to yourself:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stupid horse!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now be honest &#8211; ever said that or thought it?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a typical reaction for us &#8220;intelligent&#8221;<br \/>\nhumans.<\/p>\n<p>But the real issue is &#8220;Why did he not do it?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Beery made a very wise statement about<br \/>\nthis issue in his books:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When a horse balks it is seldom<br \/>\nfrom any unwillingness to do all<br \/>\nthat he understands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Do you understand the wisdom in that quote?<\/p>\n<p>If you learn anything in this email then<br \/>\nunderstand this:<\/p>\n<p>Beery said &#8220;seldom&#8221; a horse is unwilling<br \/>\nto do all he understands.<\/p>\n<p>In other words &#8211; your horse is almost<br \/>\nalways willing to do what you ask &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>IF he understands what your asking!!<\/p>\n<p>This one tip could be a breakthrough for<br \/>\nyou and your horse starting today.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pretty much that simple.<\/p>\n<p>So what do you do?<\/p>\n<p>You take time &#8211; explain what you want.<br \/>\nIt often takes time and patience.<\/p>\n<p>The whole idea is to teach and train him<br \/>\nand set up your horse to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>Make it EASY for your horse to do what you ask.<\/p>\n<p>Life is so much better for you and your horse<br \/>\nwhen you take the time to help him understand!<\/p>\n<p>My friend Andy Curry once wrote the following<br \/>\nabout this:<\/p>\n<p>++++++<br \/>\n&#8220;That brings me to the 4 reasons a horse<br \/>\nwon&#8217;t do what you ask.<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0 Mismanagement<\/p>\n<p>This takes the form of working against<br \/>\nyour horse&#8217;s nature.\u00a0 An example would<br \/>\nbe applying too much pressure.<\/p>\n<p>2) Excitement<\/p>\n<p>The horse may get wound up and be consumed<br \/>\nwith excitement.\u00a0 An example here is something getting<br \/>\nyour horse&#8217;s attention, perhaps spooking him, and<br \/>\nit excites his nature.<\/p>\n<p>3) Confusion<\/p>\n<p>The horse is overwhelmed with not knowing<br \/>\nwhat&#8217;s going on.\u00a0 An example here would be teaching<br \/>\na horse to pull.<\/p>\n<p>The horse may so anxious to pull that when<br \/>\nhe hears the command to pull he starts with a jump.<\/p>\n<p>When he does, it doesn&#8217;t move the load he&#8217;s<br \/>\npulling.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the teamster is behind him screaming and<br \/>\nyelling &#8220;STEP!!\u00a0 STEP!!&#8221; and crackin&#8217; a whip<br \/>\nbehind him.<\/p>\n<p>Now the horse is so badly balked and confused<br \/>\nthat he doesn&#8217;t know what&#8217;s the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, the horse was obviously willing<br \/>\nto move.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just he didn&#8217;t know how to pull.<\/p>\n<p>He got jerked back.\u00a0 But what a mistake the<br \/>\ndriver makes by cracking a whip and ballyhooin&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>If your horse should get punished for that,<br \/>\nthen perhaps he should be punished for not knowing how<br \/>\nto speak English too.<\/p>\n<p>4) Not knowing how to do something.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already covered that.<\/p>\n<p>++++++<\/p>\n<p>Make sense?<\/p>\n<p>This, along with dozens and dozens of other insights,<br \/>\nis what makes the Jesse Beery Course books so valuable.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah &#8211; it&#8217;s 100 years old and some of the wording is<br \/>\na bit different than how we talk today.<\/p>\n<p>But the content of the Beery manual is like a goldmine<br \/>\nof horse training wisdom and very effective methods.<\/p>\n<p>You can read a lot more about Jesse Beery here:<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.horsetrainingresources.com\/beery.html<\/p>\n<p>==============================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.
