Most of them I delete.<br \/>\nI really look forward to yours though and keep<br \/>\nthem in a folder to look back on.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for all you do for the horse community!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mitch<br \/>\nRidin in Tucson<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Today&#8217;s Magazine Issue:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You Can&#8217;t Blame It On The Horse (All The Time)&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s common&#8230;&#8230;\u00a0 A horse won&#8217;t do somethin&#8217;<br \/>\nand it&#8217;s their fault.<\/p>\n<p>Or is it?&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>You know, a horse is basically perfect<br \/>\nin every sense.<\/p>\n<p>What I mean is&#8230;before we get our hands on &#8217;em, they<br \/>\ncan already do what we want them to do.<br \/>\n(for the most part).<\/p>\n<p>They already know how to back up, move<br \/>\nforward, turn, etc.<\/p>\n<p>But when you throw the human in the<br \/>\nequation,&#8230;look out.<\/p>\n<p>Everything&#8217;s different.<\/p>\n<p>We think the horse oughta do what<br \/>\nwe ask because we know what we want&#8230;so why doesn&#8217;t<br \/>\nthe horse do it?<\/p>\n<p>The lesson is, he &#8220;CAN&#8221; do it, but<br \/>\nwe just haven&#8217;t explained what we want and how<br \/>\nwe want it done.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s basically what training is all about.<\/p>\n<p>First, the horse has to know what you want.<\/p>\n<p>And when you&#8217;re sittin&#8217; there kissin&#8217;<br \/>\nto &#8217;em, they&#8217;re trying to figure out what you want.<\/p>\n<p>To make it clear what you want&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do everything you can<br \/>\nto set your horse up<br \/>\nto successfully do what you asked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That means if you want him to, say,<br \/>\nlunge to the left then you better give him a big,<br \/>\nconvenient opening so he can move that direction.<\/p>\n<p>Make it so danged easy for him to<br \/>\ngo to left that he does it.<\/p>\n<p>And when he does, let him do it.<\/p>\n<p>Stop kissing to him so he &#8220;clearly&#8221;<br \/>\nknows that&#8217;s what you wanted.<\/p>\n<p>This is the case whenever you work with a horse.<\/p>\n<p>Early on, horses don&#8217;t know their leads, don&#8217;t know<br \/>\nhow to balance under you, so it&#8217;s up to us to stay<br \/>\ncentered and squared so they can do their job.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the points Kenny Scott<br \/>\nreveals in his DVD about controlling all four<br \/>\ncorners of your horse.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to know more about Kenny,<br \/>\nclick on the following:<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/HorseTrainingResources.com\/dvd-kennyscott.html<\/p>\n<p>We must remember that if the horse didn&#8217;t do<br \/>\nright&#8230;whose fault was it?<\/p>\n<p>Did we explain it well enough?<\/p>\n<p>Does he really know what you&#8217;re asking?<\/p>\n<p>Did you get in his way?<\/p>\n<p>Who&#8217;s to blame here?<\/p>\n<p>Our human egos get in the way and fool<br \/>\nus into believing the horse is dumb.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He should know that!&#8221;, we angrily<br \/>\nsay to ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230;should he?<\/p>\n<p>If it was explained to him day after day<br \/>\nthrough repetition&#8230;then yes!, he should<br \/>\nknow it as long as he&#8217;s been doing it.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, if your horse isn&#8217;t doing something,<br \/>\nit&#8217;s high time we look at ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m gonna tell you something you may<br \/>\nnot wanna hear.\u00a0 And that is this.<\/p>\n<p>If your horse is doing something you<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t want him doing, or doesn&#8217;t do something<br \/>\nyou want him to do&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The First Place To Look<br \/>\nto Correct The Problem Is Yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a for instance.<\/p>\n<p>I got an email from a subscriber who<br \/>\nsaid her new horse was &#8220;great for the first 2 weeks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Slowly and steadily he became pushy<br \/>\nand pinned ears at her, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>After checking into it, this horse<br \/>\nowner was not taking the leadership role.<\/p>\n<p>She did a few things to kill her position as her<br \/>\nhorse&#8217;s boss and now the horse was boss.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this horse owner should<br \/>\nhave read up on her subject and learned<br \/>\nas much as she could.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I ain&#8217;t sayin&#8217; a horse&#8217;s problem is always<br \/>\nthe owner&#8217;s fault.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just sayin&#8217; that&#8217;s the first place<br \/>\nto look to correct the problem.<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/HorseTrainingResources.com\/dvd-kennyscott.html<\/p>\n<p>OK&#8230;Until next time &#8211; stay safe around your horses!<\/p>\n<p>Charlie<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
