but I think I&#8217;d be doing Jill a disservice<br \/>\nby doing so.\u00a0 You reap what you sow.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a principle<br \/>\nwe live by.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t doubt for a minute that if Jill sent the same letter<br \/>\nto some of the big names selling the $1,000 + DVD sets, that<br \/>\nthey&#8217;d suggest she buy their products.<\/p>\n<p>But I think Jill already has all the information she needs.<\/p>\n<p>You see, I think that Jill&#8217;s problem is lack of<br \/>\nfocus and understanding.\u00a0 In reality, the real issue is:<\/p>\n<p><strong> &#8220;Information Overload&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is so easy today to buy books, DVDs, courses, go to<br \/>\nclinics, etc&#8230;..all while lacking focus.<\/p>\n<p>We tend to jump from one thing to the next hoping the<br \/>\nmagic bullet will appear.\u00a0 But it doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>[You&#8217;ve heard me say this dozens of times: Horse<br \/>\ntraining takes lots of time and patience.\u00a0 You MUST<br \/>\nunderstand how a horse thinks and how he learns before you<br \/>\ncan adequately train him.]<\/p>\n<p>At times we read about some special way of doing things, or<br \/>\nsomeone puts a spin on something that was real common<br \/>\nyears ago but calls it something else now.\u00a0 So, we drop<br \/>\nwhat have only to run over to get this neat, new thing.<\/p>\n<p>Sound familiar?\u00a0 I must tell you, I&#8217;m just as guilty as<br \/>\nanyone else in one of my interests.\u00a0 I can spot it &#8216;cuz<br \/>\nI live it.\u00a0 We can get distracted too easily.<\/p>\n<p>So, that&#8217;s why I told Jill to put everything on her<br \/>\nshelf except a specific trainer&#8217;s stuff.\u00a0 Take that<br \/>\none thing, study it intently, and then go apply only<br \/>\nhis methods to her horse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focus<\/strong>.\u00a0 Understand what the trainer was saying and why.<br \/>\nUnderstand why he is teaching the horse in a specific way<br \/>\ndue to the way the horse learns.\u00a0 Understand the nature<br \/>\nof the horse and then go teach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Train the trainer first.\u00a0 Stay focused.\u00a0 Work on one<br \/>\nthing at a time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m anxious to hear back from her to see how it goes.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t get me wrong &#8211; I think diversity in training<br \/>\nand learning various methods from proven, professional<br \/>\ntrainers is good.\u00a0 In fact, it&#8217;s frequently needed since<br \/>\nnot all horses respond to the same training methods<br \/>\nas others.\u00a0 Some horses have different dispositions &#8211;<br \/>\njust like my 5 kids.\u00a0 What works on one may be less<br \/>\neffective on another.<\/p>\n<p>So we go into our horse training bag-o-tricks and<br \/>\ntry something else.\u00a0 But we have to have a clear,<br \/>\nsolid foundation built first.<\/p>\n<p>The foundational stuff, especially for someone<br \/>\nwho is green and just starting out, is important.<br \/>\nIn that case, learning from a multitude of trainers<br \/>\ncan be confusing and you find yourself bouncing<br \/>\naround like a pinball looking for an out.<\/p>\n<p>So, did I do the right thing?\u00a0 Perhaps I should have<br \/>\nsold Jill the books and DVDs and let her continue in<br \/>\na state of confusion.\u00a0 She&#8217;s read my free training email<br \/>\ntips for over a year so she probably has some level of<br \/>\ntrust built up based on what I&#8217;ve written.<\/p>\n<p>But, I couldn&#8217;t do it.\u00a0 I want to sleep at night.\u00a0 I want<br \/>\nto do the right thing.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t build our business<br \/>\non the practice of selling something to folks that they<br \/>\ndidn&#8217;t need or that might hinder their training efforts.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s like our Pulley Bridle.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve had lots of questions<br \/>\nfrom folks who ask if it will help them with their horse<br \/>\nthat has a an issue with _____.\u00a0 Many times we&#8217;ve had to say<br \/>\nNO &#8211; sorry.\u00a0 It&#8217;s only meant for ______.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a<br \/>\nbridle to be used while riding.\u00a0 It&#8217;s only meant to be<br \/>\nused from the ground.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s very effective for the<br \/>\nthings it is designed for.<\/p>\n<p>Some companies would sell it to them anyway.\u00a0 And then<br \/>\nwonder why they don&#8217;t have many repeat customers.<\/p>\n<p>OK &#8211;
