The rider keeps after you,<br \/>\nmaybe yanking the reins, spurrin&#8217; you,<br \/>\nclucking, yelling or who-knows-what at you.<\/p>\n<p>You finally have had enough.<\/p>\n<p>Then you just&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Buck &#8217;em off!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Heck with it!&#8221;, you say and eject the rider.<\/p>\n<p>Can you really blame the horse for reacting<br \/>\nto you like that if he doesn&#8217;t know what<br \/>\nyou want?<\/p>\n<p>I know many instances where the rider<br \/>\nthinks the horse is an idiot when, in fact,<br \/>\nthe rider is causing the problems.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what your riding skills<br \/>\nare like but if they need to be polished,<br \/>\nI urge you to get with a reputable trainer<br \/>\nor instructor and take lessons.<\/p>\n<p>The problem with that is some trainers<br \/>\nget ridiculous with their lessons&#8230;.and<br \/>\nsome, unfortunately, are dishonest.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s a couple hints.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you go to a trainer for lessons,<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t reveal too much about yourself at first<br \/>\nother than how long you&#8217;ve been riding and<br \/>\nyour experience level.<\/p>\n<p>Next, don&#8217;t show up at the trainer&#8217;s<br \/>\nplace in a Lexus or some other vehicle that<br \/>\nsays, &#8220;Hey&#8230;I have money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve heard of trainers that spot<br \/>\nthat and milk it for all it&#8217;s worth.<\/p>\n<p>Next, don&#8217;t tell &#8217;em what you do for<br \/>\na living if you can help it.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because if what you do for a living<br \/>\nmakes you good money, there&#8217;s another reason<br \/>\nto milk it.<\/p>\n<p>Now you may think I&#8217;m down on trainers.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not. I&#8217;m simply saying you don&#8217;t know<br \/>\nwho is honest so just be prepared.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A good, honest referral from someone you<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> trust is invaluable when you&#8217;re looking<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> for a trainer, a farrier or a vet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have time to go to a trainer<br \/>\nfor riding help then here are some pointers from<br \/>\n<strong>Diana Quintana&#8217;s &#8220;How To Ride A Horse&#8221; DVD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>First, know how your horse works.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>They have various gaits.<\/p>\n<p>When they walk it&#8217;s a 1,2,3,4.<\/p>\n<p>When they trot, it&#8217;s a two-beat gait.<\/p>\n<p>When they lope, it&#8217;s a 3 beat gait.<\/p>\n<p>Why does this matter?<\/p>\n<p>Because you&#8217;ll be riding each gait differently.<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t ride a walking gait like you would<br \/>\na trot.<\/p>\n<p>Start at the walk and feel each foot hit<br \/>\nthe ground.<\/p>\n<p>Let your lower body relax and let the horse&#8217;s<br \/>\nmotion move your hips around.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t go past the walk until you&#8217;ve nearly<br \/>\nmastered it.<\/p>\n<p>Then work on the next gait up.<\/p>\n<p>You can&#8217;t get good at the next faster gait<br \/>\nuntil you&#8217;ve mastered the one before it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>More riding pointers:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For good horsemanship, your shoulders need<br \/>\nto be square.<\/p>\n<p>Your head looks straight.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re sitting upright.<\/p>\n<p>Your legs are close to the horse directly<br \/>\nunderneath him.<\/p>\n<p>BUT!&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Your legs from just below the knee down<br \/>\naren&#8217;t touching the horse unless you ask him to<br \/>\nmove with your legs.<\/p>\n<p>Keep your elbows in &#8211; no flopping around.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There&#8217;s much more to it than this, but it<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> gives you a good start.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And if you want to know more of what Diana<br \/>\nshows in her <strong>&#8220;How To Ride A Horse&#8221;<\/strong> DVD,<br \/>\nthen click on the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horsetrainingresources.com\/dvds\/dianaquintana-safely-confidently\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.horsetrainingresources.com\/dvds\/dianaquintana-safely-confidently<\/a>\/<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a shortened link: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dianaquintana-safely-confidently\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click HERE for Diana&#8217;s Horse Riding DVD<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s another thing you can try that&#8217;s\u00a0in Diana&#8217;s DVD:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>First, your hands must be still.<\/p>\n<p>You can&#8217;t be jerkin&#8217; them all over the place.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t want your horse&#8217;s face pulled<br \/>\non all the time &#8211; he won&#8217;t like it and you may<br \/>\nend up on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>So, practice keeping your hands still<br \/>\nwith a cup of ice water.<\/p>\n<p>It makes you &#8220;very aware&#8221; of where<br \/>\nyour hands are. It helps you keep good posture,<br \/>\nand sitting up straight.<\/p>\n<p>So you hold the ice water in one hand<br \/>\nand ride with the other.<\/p>\n<p>This works good because it forces you<br \/>\nto concentrate on &#8220;your&#8221; hands because you&#8217;re<br \/>\nholding the ice and gets you to leave the horse<br \/>\nalone.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t be staring down at the cup<br \/>\nof ice water.
