won&#8217;t he do it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ever really pondered that?<\/p>\n<p>Due to lack of understanding, a lot<br \/>\nof people say a horse won&#8217;t do something because<br \/>\nhe doesn&#8217;t want to.<\/p>\n<p>Guess what?<\/p>\n<p><strong>In most cases that just &#8216;taint so.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: medium;\"><strong>Horses are typically willing to do what you ask.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Horsemen\/women have known this for centuries.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: medium;\"><strong>Jesse Beery&#8217;s Wisdom:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jesse Beery says this in his Horse Training Manual:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;When a horse balks it is seldom<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 from any unwillingness to do all<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 that he understands.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do see the power in that quote?<\/p>\n<p>If you get anything out of today&#8217;s tip,<br \/>\nget this.<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Beery said &#8216;seldom&#8217; a horse is<br \/>\nunwilling to do all he understands.<\/p>\n<p>Another way of saying it is this:<\/p>\n<p>Almost always a horse will do what you<br \/>\nask <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>if he understands what you&#8217;re asking<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: medium;\"><strong>Eureka!!!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s so valuable about this<br \/>\nprofound insight.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re workin&#8217; to get your horse doing<br \/>\nsomething but he&#8217;s not doin&#8217; it&#8230;what should you<br \/>\nsay to yourself after reading what I just told you?<\/p>\n<p>If your horse isn&#8217;t doing what you want,<br \/>\nyou should say to yourself:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He doesn&#8217;t understand what I want.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>No! \u00a0He&#8217;s not stupid.<\/p>\n<p>He just doesn&#8217;t know what you want. (usually)<\/p>\n<p>So I ask you&#8230;who needs to take the bull<br \/>\nby the horns and explain to him what you want?<\/p>\n<p>You!<\/p>\n<p>Just remember it.<\/p>\n<p>If your horse isn&#8217;t doing what you want,<br \/>\nmore &#8216;n likely it&#8217;s cuz he doesn&#8217;t know<br \/>\nwhat you want.<\/p>\n<p>For the most part&#8230;it&#8217;s THAT simple.<\/p>\n<p>So take the time to explain it to him.<\/p>\n<p>Set him up to succesd.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t make it hard for him to get it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: medium;\"><strong>4 Reasons A Horse Won&#8217;t Do What You Ask:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>That brings me to the 4 reasons a horse<br \/>\nwon&#8217;t do what you ask.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>1) \u00a0Mismanagement<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This takes the form of working against<br \/>\nyour horse&#8217;s nature. \u00a0An example would be applying<br \/>\ntoo much pressure.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>2) Excitement<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The horse may get wound up and be consumed<br \/>\nwith excitement. \u00a0An example here is something getting<br \/>\nyour horse&#8217;s attention, perhaps spooking him, and<br \/>\nit excites his nature.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>3) Confusion<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The horse is overwhelmed with not knowing<br \/>\nwhat&#8217;s going on. \u00a0An example here would be teaching<br \/>\na horse to pull.<\/p>\n<p>The horse may so anxious to pull that when<br \/>\nhe hears the command to pull he starts with a jump.<\/p>\n<p>When he does, it doesn&#8217;t move the load he&#8217;s<br \/>\npulling.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the teamster is behind him screaming and<br \/>\nyelling &#8216;STEP!! \u00a0STEP!!&#8217; and crackin&#8217; a whip<br \/>\nbehind him.<\/p>\n<p>Now the horse is so badly balked and confused<br \/>\nthat he doesn&#8217;t know what&#8217;s the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, the horse was obviously willing<br \/>\nto move. \u00a0It&#8217;s just he didn&#8217;t know how to pull.<\/p>\n<p>He got jerked back. \u00a0But what a mistake the<br \/>\ndriver makes by cracking a whip and ballyhooin&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>If your horse should get punished for that,<br \/>\nthen perhaps he should be punished for not<br \/>\nknowing how to speak English, too!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>4) Not knowing how to do something.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already covered that.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the many valuable points<br \/>\nJesse Beery covers in his Horse Training Manual.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t seen it yet, I urge you to<br \/>\ntake a look.
