Horse Training: I Wish I Had Known That!

“I Wish I Would’ve Known That!”

Ray Hunt, a famous and very respected
horseman, once said,
“The first thing you need to know
is the last thing you’ll find out”

Has that ever happened in your life?
In those times it did happen, don’t you
wish would’ve known them…immediately?!
And in the horse world, Ray Hunt’s
saying is especially applicable.
Here’s a for instance.
Do you know any of the Rein Effects?

A rein effect is how you use a rein
on your horse and how it affects his behavior.
For example, let’s talk about the
Direct Rein of Opposition.
Sounds like a big, snazzy name, right?
Truth is, it’s a horseman’s term for
describing how to use a rein on a horse
to get a desired result.
A ‘good’ trainer will explain to you
what the ‘Direct Rein Of Opposition’
means before he works with you and
your horse.
He might say something like this,
‘Take one rein straight back to your hip.
If you pull both reins back, you ‘directly oppose’
the horse’s forward motion.’
So if you’re riding your horse and he’s
coaching you, the trainer may say
‘Use your Direct Rein Of Opposition.’
And you’ll know what to do.
He would go further to explain you don’t want
to use this much (especially in the beginning)
because it’s used mostly for flexing at
the poll and collection.
He’d also tell you it’s not too effective
for controlling a horse and that it’s really
only for communication and should be applied lightly.
The point is this.
Learn the vocabulary of this horse thing
so you know what people mean when they say it.
That’s the first lesson.
http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/dvds/samburrell-install-operating-system/

Second, know what effects the reins have
when used in certain ways.
Third, learn different exercises you can do
with your horse using the different rein effects.
That way, you can get your horse doing
incredible things in a relatively short time.
Thus, you’d not only learn the
Direct Rein of Opposition, but also the
Indirect Rein of Opposition,
the Direct Rein,
and the Indirect Rein.
Combining them with certain ‘Zone’ exercises
will help you turn your horse into a obedient,
quiet, calm, cooperative, nice horse.
How?
You’ll be able to direct their movements.
When you direct a horse’s movements, that’s
when you are most able to make the biggest
change in their brain.
I should also say, controlling your horse’s
movements begins on the ground and the respect
from that transfers to the saddle.
Anyway, I know the rein effects I listed may
sound a bit overwhelming, but it’s not hard to do.
Sam Burrell has a great video on how
to do this if this is something that interests you.

This brings me back to what Ray Hunt said.
The first thing you need to know is the last
thing you find out.
These rein effects are definitely one of the first
things horse owners should know because it makes
profound differences in the horse and the
horse’s owner (you).
That’s it for now – stay safe out there.

Merry Christmas from Horse Training Resources

Merry Christmas from Horse Training Resources

Over the last six years, since we started
Horse Training Resources and related horse
websites, we have been privileged to get to
know, serve and help thousands of horse-lovin’
folks like you.

Whether you’re one of the first ones to join
our horse tips list years ago, or you just joined
yesterday, we want to say “Thanks” for being there.

And, thanks for your business and notes of support.

Many have received literally hundreds of horse
tips, along with the special emails we’ve sent.

For those of you who are new, you’ll find that
we don’t hide our faith and beliefs.  We don’t,
in any way, show preference to anyone who
believes like us or differently than us.

Everyone is welcome and we don’t discriminate
at all based on faith, origin, sex, horse
breed or riding style ;>)

As long as you act in a civil manner we welcome you.

But you’ll also find that we aren’t necessarily
“politically correct”, either.  Please understand
that this is who we are and how we live our lives.

We don’t separate our personal and business
lives.  We operate our family and our business
on the same values, beliefs and morals.  It is
who we are individually, as a family and a business.

I believe people like to know who their dealing with.

We’re not a big corporate company with faceless
personalities.  We are a family of Christian
believers.  We have 5 children from 14 to 33.
Two remain at home.  We home school.

I am pleased to say that all 5 of my children
have accepted the Lord Jesus as Savior.  Next
to our own salvation, my wife and I feel that
is the most important thing we could have happen.

We celebrate Christ Jesus everyday of our lives.
Every one in our family is heavily involved in
our church (or churches where they live), various
ministries, missionaries and community services.

We are perhaps unique this day and age when so
many feel they have to tip toe around their faith
or other beliefs.

Every one of our family members have in the past,
or are working in the business.  My wife helps
with the accounting, my two youngest make the
pulley bridles, my youngest daughter does some
of the shipping, etc.  My oldest son does
much of the newer web design.  Everyone has
been a part in building and making this business
what it is.

We are blessed.  It’s a lot of work and we’ve
risked a lot to make a go of it, but the Lord
has blessed the business and we continue to
grow.  In fact, you’ll see some new offerings
in the next month or two.

This year we’ve added a whole line of
Amazon Kindle books and have started moving some to
the Barnes and Noble Nook reader as well.

We have added 10 more full length DVDs to our
flagship online resource “The Horse Library” as
well as other additions there.

We’ll be adding many of those new DVDs for sale
on the website soon.

I am now investing heavily in a new addition
to the website to provide video-on-demand
services.  More on that in the coming weeks.

I have additional books in the works.

Needless to say, we’re tired – but it’s a good
tired – from building, growing, and investing
in the future.  It’s the nature of the business
we are in.

I won’t hide the fact that it’s been a challenge
in these changing economic times.  We’ve had to
adjust.  We have to figure out what the market
wants and offer products to meet that need.

I still believe that if we invest in folks
by giving away free horse tips, book downloads,
etc. that they will eventually do business
with us when they have a need and the funds
to do it.  We’ll continue doing business this
way until we are proven wrong.

—-

OK – enough about us.  My intention was not
to ramble on about us but rather offer a few
thoughts about Christ and Christmas.

First – please pray for our service men and
women who are deployed away from home at this
time.  And pray for their families who are
sacrificing right along with them.

We owe our highest gratitude to these
families who have or are now serving this
country and securing our freedom.  As
the son of an Air Force pilot who didn’t
see his Dad for months and months at
a time, I salute you and say thanks.

Next – pray for our leaders – from the
President and his cabinet all the way
to down through the legislators and courts.

It’s real obvious that there is corruption
from the top down.  I doesn’t seem to matter
what political party you’re from.  Corruption
doesn’t follow political parties but rather
in the hearts of those serving.

It’s no secret that our country, along with
the countries in Europe and around the
globe, are consumed with debt, financial
malfeasance, a welfare state, and a lack
of common sense.  It’s sickening to watch only
to understand that it will all come
crashing down eventually.  Maybe soon.

I fear for the future of my children and
grandchildren.  Lord Jesus, come quickly!

It seems so much of society is willing to
allow evil to rein.  And call good evil.
The very Christian foundations this country was
built on are being challenged daily.

If we cease to be a God-fearing people then
our days are numbered as a country.

So what does this mean for you?

My only conclusion is this:

If you haven’t invited Jesus Christ into your
life as Lord and Savior then you need to do
that now.

If you are a Christian and aren’t living
the Christian lifestyle, then you need to
re-evaluate things and perhaps straighten
things out.  If you’ve fallen away from
what you know is true then commit to turning
around now.

What better time to do this than now!  At
the time we celebrate our Lord’s birth.

Want to know the truth?  While I’d love to
sell you lots of horse training DVDs, books,
and related products, the most important thing
in you need in your life right now is
to the have the assurance that YOU will have
eternal life.

There is NOTHING more important than that.
Your job, your horses, your possessions, even
your friends and family – all of it comes
second to YOUR assurance of eternal life.

You see, we are all sinners – left to ourselves,
we are all wretched beings.  ALL of us have
done things, said things, are doing things,
think things that are wrong.  Things that are evil
or morally wrong.  You know in your heart that is true.

But heaven is a perfect place.  And therein
lies the problem.  How do we, as sinners, enter
into a perfect heaven where Christ reins?

My friend, it is through the birth, death and
resurrection of Christ Jesus our Savior.  HE
paid the price for our transgressions, HE took
our sin to the cross on our behalf.  He, and
He alone, paid for our salvation.

Many of you reading this are Christian believers.

But many of you are not.  Perhaps you’ve been
told of the plan of salvation or perhaps not.

What is most important right now is “What are
you going to do about it?”

He’s calling you now.  He’s knocking on the
door of your heart.  Open the door and let him
in and accept him as Lord of your life.

This is the most important thing you could do
right now.  You see, we don’t know what
could happen to us in the next few minutes,
days or months ahead.  Individually, we don’t
know if we’ll see tomorrow or not.

If you haven’t accepted the Lord as Savior
in your life you can do it right now.  Say
a simple prayer something like this:

“Lord Jesus, I admit I am a sinner and need you
in my life.  I want to spend eternity with
you.  Lord, please forgive me of my sins and
come into my heart.

You said in Romans 10:9 that if we confess with our
mouths that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our hearts that
God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.

Lord, transform me and take control of my
life that I might please you.

God, thank you for offering the gift of your
Son that I might be saved.  Amen.”

That, my friends, is the most important
prayer you could ever say.  And once you
do, you’ll want to share that with your
family and friends.

If you said that prayer just now, please
let me know.  Send me an email.  Thanks,
and congratulations!

Christmas is about Christ.  You’d hardly
know it as you look around these days.

Please, be diligent about keeping Christ
in your Christmas.  Let it be evident in
your life – to your family, friends and
work.  He’ll reward you greatly as you serve Him.

So, perhaps not the email you expected today
from a horse training business.  But nothing
could be more important to your life and to
me than to know your heart is right with the Lord.
Everything else will fall into proper perspective
once that happens.

Lord bless you and your family in this
Christmas season.  And may He direct your
steps throughout the coming year.

Here’s a quick horse tip for you:

As you go out to work with your horse, have
a very specific thing you want to accomplish.

Then, just before you start, ask the Lord
to help you understand your horse, to give
you insight into the horse’s thoughts and
reactions and to direct your voice, temperament,
and actions as you train him.  Ask the Lord
to keep you safe.  You’ll be amazed at the
results you can get by approaching the horse
with the right attitude and understanding.
Proceed with gentleness yet firmness as
necessary.  Don’t react but rather try to
understand and adjust your training to the
response your horse is displaying.

Lord bless,

Charlie

Give Something Away To Make Your Horse Valuable

Horse Training: Give Something Away To Make Your Horse Valuable

First – Have you seen our books available
in Kindle format?  Click here to see ’em:

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/kindle-books/
(and you DON’T need a Kindle to read ’em)

In This Horse Tips Magazine Issue:

“Give Something Away To Make Your Horse Valuable”

It happened in July, 2001 in Cheltenham, England.

An elderly couple had a painting on
their wall for decades.

They were growing tired of it.

They decided to sell it but first
wanted to see what it was worth.

They figured it was worth a couple
thousand dollars.

They wrapped it in a blanket and took
it to an auction house for an appraisal.

Turns out the painting was a masterpiece
by 17th century French artist Nicolas Poussin.

It was valued at…

$600,000.00!

What a shocker!

That’s the perfect lesson of discovering
the value of something you didn’t know you have.

Think about this.

With horses, there’s something you have
that you can take but also have to give
away or it loses its value.

What is it?

Giving back.

Here’s what I mean.

If you drop your horse’s head down and
push him into the bridle…you have taken
his head.

Now you have to give back by releasing
his head once he gives.

He’ll elevate his head out of it and
then you can repeat it.

You do this in small increments.

Tell him that’s not good enough so,
“Please can I have some more?”

Horses learn through repetition.

Repetition becomes habit.

And habit is the end product be it
good or bad.

That’s a key horse training tip you
can take to the bank and draw upon
the rest of your life.

It’s what determines a broke horse.

Can you see there’s a mutual respect
thing going on here?

You ask your horse for something, he
offers it, and you say thank you by giving
it back.  Just like pressure-release.

If you don’t give back, you destroy
the mutual respect and before you know it,
your horse’s cooperation

.
.
.

You see, this is part of the horse’s
justice system.

It’s how they work in the wild and you
gotta work with them how they work or you’ll
get into trouble.

I submit to you that this is one of the
most common, underlying reasons people have
trouble with horses.

This is the wisdom Kenny Scott revealed
in the interview we did with him.  If you
want to know more, click on the following:

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/dvds/kennyscott-4-corners/

One more thing.

Kenny reminds us to say thank you as
often as possible…just like you would family
and friends.

But the major difference is you want the
horse to respect you and do it willingly and
with trust.

Again, that’s the horse’s justice system.

I can’t think of a better plan to follow.

You could learn a lot from Kenny.  He’s a
world-class trainer – literally.  Read more
