Horse Riding and Training: Feeling Down? Saddle Up!

    “Feeling down?  Saddle up.”

~Author Unknown

Ah…  how many of us can relate to that?

There’s something about being out with your horses,
even grooming, feeding or working them,
that provides a great release and allows
us to flee the cares of the world for a little bit.

I love to read quotes about horses…
and since horses and mankind have spent
centuries together there are lots of them.

I got a chuckle out of this one:

“In my opinion, a horse is the animal to have.
Eleven-hundred pounds of raw muscle, power,
grace,  and sweat between your legs –
it’s something you  just can’t get
from a pet hamster.”

~Author Unknown

’tis true.  Not that all kinds of pets
can’t be enjoyed are aren’t useful.

There’s just something about horses –
in their strength, size and nature, that is so compelling.

That we might be able to control them
by voice, our body movement or light
reins is amazing when you think about it.

Here’s one more quote:

“A dog may be man’s best friend,
but the horse wrote history.”

~Author Unknown

But horses, just like dogs and other
animals, need to be trained to be useful.

History books are filled with ways the
horse has been used in civilization to
farm, transport, pull, plow, and enjoy
in many sports.

Ever think about how many millions of
horses have been trained to do so many
different tasks, all over the world?

It really is mind boggling.

Many training methods have been tried
and perfected.  The successful methods
have been promoted and the poor ones
quickly fade away.  This is especially
true back in the 1800’s – 1900’s.

There were some very successful horse trainers
in the 1800’s and early 1900’s that literally
“systematized” or standardized methods that
were so effective.

Famous names like Rarey, Powell and others
established excellent methods that were
starting to get published a lot.

Then, in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s
came a young man who studied these trainers
and spent many hours studying the nature and
disposition of horses like no other trainer had.

Prof. Jesse Beery developed his training system
and mastered it over many years, handling
thousands of horses all across the country.

He developed what is now known as the most
successful horse training program in history:

“Prof. Jesse Beery’s Illustrated Course in Horse Training”

It is 8 volumes that start out with much of the
foundational work and colt training and works
through all kinds of vices and problems that
horses exhibit.

The last volume is mostly dedicated to teaching
tricks (which can be a lot of fun for any horse owner!).

Over 300,000 horse owners have used Beery’s
methods.  No other course or program can make this claim.

Think it might work for you?

http://horsetrainingresources.com/beery.html

Does your horse need some training – is he
exhibiting some bad behaviors?

How long are you willing to put up with him this
way?

Unfortunately, many owners wait until
they can “Get Around To It”.

The problems their horses have now develop
into time bombs and an accident happens.
You get kicked, bit, thrown, squeezed and
possibly seriously hurt.

Trust me…  I’ve heard almost every story
and situation.  Many of them just ain’t very pretty.

Perhaps this spring is time for you to start
bombproofing or training that problem horse.

To discover how easy it really is click the
link below.  Read about the training books,
audio books and all the bonus books you get
with the Jesse Beery Course.

I promise you – if you’ll take time to discover
his methods and apply them you can fix any problem yourself.

You know, I’ve never had anyone EVER say:

“I’m sorry I spent time working
with and training my horse”

http://horsetrainingresources.com/beery.html

The time you spend working on the problems will
reap rewards for years to come.  And you’ll be
learning invaluable skills that can be used on
all future horses you handle and own.

Want to enjoy the time in the saddle?

Get control of your horse.

Here’s what Roy Rogers said:

“When you’re young and you fall off
a horse, you may break something.
When you’re my age, you splatter.”

Enjoy your horses…  but please do so safely.

Charlie

P.S. One of the bonus books that comes with
the Beery course is “The Arabian Art of Taming
and Training Wild & Vicious Horses”

It’s an additional 36 pages of horse training
experience and wisdom that explains how to work
with stubborn dispositions, how to halter,
lead, saddle, mount and ride a colt.
This book alone I have seen being sold
for as much as $37.00 by itself.

It’s yours as a bonus when you buy the
Beery course – either as a download or
in printed book form.

———————————————————————–
“Hello Charlie,

Just like to thank you for the opportunity to buy Professor Beery’s
training books. The information and his years of experience he has
put into it is invaluable and so easy to put into action. I have
bought a 6 year old gelding that was an ex-pacer,(disposition 2&4)
and has lots of bad habits which include chewing wood, bucking,
bolting, shying  and nipping. Basically he was dangerous to ride.

After a month using Jesse’s methods I now have a horse that is easy
and pleasant to ride and is no longer dangerous and unpredictable.

The other thing  that is great is you can make the training equipment
that he mentions and describes so easily and cheaply. The only thing
I bought was a surcingle. I also have likely saved thousands of
dollars for training this horse myself instead of sending him
to a professional trainer.

I certainly will not be returning  this book, in fact, a wild
team of horses could not drag it from me. As for those that
think this book is outdated I can only laugh at them, ha ha ha.
I bet my horse will be trained before theirs.

Thanks for sending me e-mail tips and I thank you
once again for this wonderful book.

All the best,

Steve Riddle”

Horse Training Videos: Tornadoes and Horses

 “Tornadoes and Horses”

Did you know tornadoes strike most
often between 4-6 p.m.?

And the months they most often strike
in is March through July.

Although they can be predictable,
they have a lot of unpredictability.

Horses are like that to an extent.

Often, a horse can be predictable.

It’s just their unpredictability
that’s dangerous.

I’m not convinced most horse owners
understand the significance of a horse’s un-
predictability.

In fact, I believe if horse owners
knew how their horse was capable of hurting
them…albeit unintentional…they’d do all
they could to squash the possibility of it
happening.

Or at the least, they’d learn to
recognize when their horse is about to turn
into a tornado and they could either stop
it or lessen it.

To do that, I urge you to put your
horse through an obstacle course.

I don’t care HOW calm you think
your horse is.

That’s not the point.

The point is putting your horse through
an obstacle course will show you where your
horse is at mentally.

It will show you his “Spook Signs”.

What are his spook signs?

His spook signs are the things he
does before his “Uh Oh Switch” is turned on.

Once his “Uh Oh Switch” is turned on,
then you’re dealing with the horse getting
spooked.

And that could be bolting out of
control with you hanging on for dear life.

It could be your horse bucking.

Rearing.

And more.

Plus, here’s the thing.

You could have a horse that’s always
been calm.  Always been easy to ride.

Never been any trouble.

And that, my friend, is where you
get into the worst trouble.

Let your guard down and that’s
when you get hurt.

Remember, it’s a horse’s unpredictability
that’s dangerous.

Now I’m not tryin’ to discourage horse
owners from riding or getting into horses.

It’s a big dream people have and I
just want them to be safe.

So it’s best you know the realities.

After all, isn’t it refreshing that
someone tells you like it “really” is?

That so, go out and make yourself
an obstacle course for you and your horse.

Start with some simple pieces of PVC
pipe you can lay on the ground at about 20
feet apart.

Start by asking your horse to walk
between them in a serpentine fashion.

You may be surprised to find your
horse may argue with you about doing it.

Why?

He may be scared of them because he’s
not seen them before.

And here’s a little secret for you.

If he won’t go between them, then
spread them further apart.

And understand that it’s okay if you
have to do that.  You’re simply adjusting for
your horse’s comfort zone.

You’ll be able to bring the poles
closer together over time.

Now what’s the purpose of this?

One, it’s another thing to get your
horse used to.

Two, and very important, you become
aware of what your horse’s “Uh Oh Signs” are.

As you ride him around and through
the poles, be on the lookout for what signs
your horse shows that he’s getting bothered
by what he sees and hears.

Feel his body below you.

Does he tense up.

Look for the signs as you get closer
to the objects – that’s when you’ll start
to notice them.

You want to know your horse’s signs
because it’s your early warning signal that
he could turn into a tornado.

And if you spot it early, you can
often prevent him going ballistic.  Or, you’ll
at least know he’s about to go nuts and you
won’t be as surprised.

Truth is, lots of people get tossed
off a horse because the horse’s “Uh-Oh Switch”
was clicked on and they didn’t realize it.

Now this is just a tiny piece of the
puzzle you will be doing with your horse.

What you should do is put your horse
through the entire obstacle course because
you will be amazed what it does for him and
you.

In fact, what you both will learn will
astound you and keep you soooooo much safer!

That so, hurry and get Vickie Weigel’s
info on teaching your horse to
“Conquer His Monsters”.

Click on the following:

http://horsetrainingresources.com/dvd-weigel-monsters.html

If anything, at least try the poles on
the ground.

You’ll get a feel for how it works.

But be careful because there is a safe
method to putting your horse through the obstacle
course like what Vickie shows.

You need to go slow and step by step.

And remember this because this is one
of the most important things:

“The idea is not
to scare your horse.”

But your horse’s comfort zone will have
to be challenged to make him better.

http://horsetrainingresources.com/dvd-weigel-monsters.html

OK.  that’s is for today.  Stay safe out there!

Charlie

P.S. It’s so important to know how to read your
horse’s signs.  It can mean the difference of
diffusing a problem and finding yourself in
a tornado.

Working through these kinds of things by
using an obstacle course is an excellent way
build that trust between you and your horse
and allow you to maintain control when you
do face these issues when riding.

They will happen!  Be ready.

Horse Training Tips: Sharks and Horses

1. Sharks and Horse

2. The Horse Training DVD and Book Library Offer

*******************************************************

1. Sharks and Horses

Did you know that sharks can’t
swim backwards?

Makes sense, I guess.

I suppose there’s no need to.

Horses, on the other hand, can move
about any direction you want ’em too. (They
can even swim…but probably not backwards)

How do you get your horse to move
any direction you want?

By first having the patience to
teach him.

Second, by having an idea of “how” to
teach him.

Third, and very importantly, making
sure the horse knows the right answer.

What do I mean?

This.

Linda Braddy, a favorite here, says
you have to get the right answer from your horse.

What does that mean?

It means you keep asking your horse
to do something…and you don’t stop asking
until he does it.

The concept underneath all this is
the all-famous pressure and release.

Your horse is motivated by pressure.
The pressure types are verbal, mental, and
physical.

When you want your horse to move, you
apply pressure.

That pressure causes the move.

When you get the move, stop the pressure.

Simple, right?

Yes…and no.

You’d be shocked how people can mess
this up.

There’s a process to it. And if you follow
the “rules” you’ll do just fine.

So here are the rules.

Let’s say you want your horse to back up.

So let’s say you have a stick and you’re
going to push it into his chest to help teach him
to back.

This is the pressure being caused.

The horse is supposed to move off it.

But he may not at first.

Why?

Because he doesn’t know what it means.

Plus, he may be a little dull – some
horses will move off pressure faster than others.

So as you ask your horse to back by pushing
a stick into his chest, you start off with very
light pressure from the stick.

If you go heavy pressure, the horse learns
to move off heavy pressure.  You don’t want that.

You want your horse to move off light
pressure.

Say the pressure goes from 1 (the lightest)
to 10 – the heaviest.

Start out with a 1.

So as you do this, ask yourself what you
want your horse to do.

What is the goal.

The goal is to move one foot back.

Why?

Because it’s simple.  It’s easy.  And it’s
not much to ask.

However, you may find the horse can barely
do that…if at all.

In that instance, all you may get that day
is just a “thought” of doing it.

And guess what?

You may have to accept that.

Is that bad?

No.

It’s just not as fast as you’d like.

On the other hand, who said you had to get
this done…TODAY!?!!

With horses, there is no time constraints.

If you’re up against a time constraint, you’re
gonna blow it.

You do these things at the horse’s pace.

Ok?

Ok.

Now suppose you apply pressure and the horse
doesn’t move back.

No problem.

Increase the pressure slightly.

Hold it.

Hold it.

Hold it.

If nothing happens, increase it slightly more.

Hold it.

Hold it.

Hold it…wait a minute…ahhhh…there he
goes.

He moved off the stick.

Now there are two things I want you to do
the second he moves off the stick.

What are they?

First, don’t keep applying the pressure as
he moves.  Your stick should not move once the horse
moves off from it.

That’s a huge thing because if you keep applying
the stick pressure, he’ll never know what you want.

Next, after he moves away just don’t do anything.

Just let him soak it in for a few seconds.

Don’t talk to him.

Do NOT pet him.

Nothing.

Nada!

Resist all temptation to interrupt his thinking
at that moment.

Why?

Because he’s gonna mull over in his mind what
he did to get that pressure to stop.

So let him and don’t interrupt him.

All of this can be summed up in four words.

It’s called…

“Getting the right answer”

It’s what Linda Braddy is dang good at doing
and does a fantastic job at teaching it in her DVD.

If you want to get good at this, I urge you
to watch Linda’s information, you’ll be glad you did.

Besides, you’ll see you can do this stuff just
as good as her and the rest of us.

To see more about Linda, click the following:

http://horsetrainingresources.com/dvd-brady.html

Just remember to have it clear in your mind
what you want from your horse.

Be sure to give the proper signals and body
language to make it clear what you want.

It instills confidence and trust in your
horse – and Linda will show you how it all comes
together.

If you already own the DVD, I urge you to
watch it again cuz I’ll bet the farm you pick up
several things you missed the first time that’ll
really help you out.

P.S. One little known fact about Linda Braddy?  She used to

And she used to hold clinics there as well.  She’s handled
hundreds of horses and she’s probably forgotten more than
most of us as ever learned.

When you get her video be sure to watch it 3 or 4 times.
You’ll pick up more gems each time you watch it.
