Want Brickwall Stops From Your Horse?

“Want Brickwall Stops From Your Horse?”

Whoa StopEvery now and then something someone says or does
leaves you speechless.

Such is the case with J.J. Rydberg and
some of his training wisdom.

Just reading the story about J.J.’s past experiences on
the web site is worth it, even if you don’t want the video!

JJ Rydberg Problem Solving DVD

How well does your horse stop?

Does he just slow down and eventually stop?

Does he stop at all?

The most important thing a horse
should know is how to stop.

Some argue the most important thing
a horse should know is how to move forward.

I understand that thinking but in my book,
the stop is the biggee because a good hearty
“whoa” can save your life.

If your horse isn’t very good at it,
then you’re just askin’ for trouble.

Here’s a good way to get a great stop.

After you get your horse to stop, do
this…
“Back him up
a couple steps!”
Why?

Because it cements in the horse’s mind
that he won’t be going forward.

Going forward is, of course, the opposite of stopping.

So when you teach him he “won’t” be going forward,
he eventually gets it in his mind.

This is exactly what J.J. Rydberg shows in his DVD.

Now, here’s an extra little secret I’ll hand you on a silver platter.

Remember a minute ago I said many believe that going forward is
the most important thing a horse should know?

Well…here’s one of the reasons.

  • get your horse to go forward…
  • keep him moving forward…
  • get him where he wants to rest a little…
  • and he will “WANT” to stop

JJ Rydberg Problem Solving DVD

A mistake many make is asking the horse to stop before
it’s occurred to the horse that he’d like to stop.

Work him first.

Be aware of his demeanor.

Soon you’ll see he wants to stop.

When you see it, then practice your stops.

Be careful not to nag him about this either.

No one, not even horses, like to be nagged.

Get a few good stops and then just ride him
around on a loose rein.

Let him have his face and teach him
that when you’re together that it’s not all work.

He does what you ask and you let him chill out.

It’s Time To Take Control and LEAD

“It’s Time To Take Control and LEAD”

Let me paint a picture of something I see
a lot in the horse world – especially those
who have only been around horses for a
few months or perhaps a couple years.

There are a lot of bad habits horses have
that their owners simply do nothing about.

It can put you in real danger and simply
ruin your horse experience and relationship
because you no longer enjoy your horses,
you are fearful, and in reality….

 “your horse dream-world is fading”

I am amazed at how many letters I get and
folks I meet that don’t know how to handle
situations like kicking, rearing, balking,
disrespectful, crowding your space, and a
lot, lot more!

Why would anyone let their horse get away
with these kinds of issues and not take
care of them IMMEDIATELY??

Seriously – are you letting your horse
buck, run off with you, continually spook,
or get away with other bad habits?

 WHY?

I have some strong opinions and suspect
lots of things are going on.

One is obvious – lack of understanding how
to correct these issues or how a horse
sees you as a leader.  You may be your
 own worst enemy.

I even know of some weak-knee’d trainers
who won’t take on some of these issues
because of a few reasons:

– they find it too difficult (yeah, it’s true)

– they know the owners won’t carry through
once the horse is fixed because they
treat their horses like puppies

– many horse owners don’t understand that
you have to be firm and persistent with
a horse and they will be criticized for
the training methods they use

Yeah – I said it.

 Warning:
My next few comments will probably make
some of you mad at me.  You might think
I’m too harsh because you think every
horse problem can be cured with treats.

Well, I’ll tell ya folks, horses are not
puppy dogs and they don’t learn like
humans or have human emotions, either.

Sorry to bust your bubble but it’s true.

If you don’t agree with that then perhaps
you should stop reading and unsubscribe.

Many problems in the horse training and
handling world can’t be fixed with sweet
talk, treats and “hoping” the horse will
have a change of mind.

Many things take hard, persistent work
and a complete understanding of how to
fix problems through knowing how a horse learns.

You MUST understand the true nature of the horse.

You can’t bribe a horse with treats and
expect him to stop kicking or running off
while you’re on his back.  Sorry….

What does work?

Glad you asked….

Take a look at Diana Quintana’s horse training
DVD.  She’s a master at this:

https://www.horsetrainingresources.com/dvds/dianaquintana-want-to-train/

Or Click HERE if that doesn’t work.

Then look at Brad Meyers and his “Little Things” DVD:

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/dvds/meyers-little-things/

And check out the Diana Quintana “4-H Clinic” DVD we have
featured below.

Or a favorite of many by Paul Esh on teaching
your horse to “Respect Your Space”:

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/dvds/paulesh-respect-space/

Folks – we have many more as well.  A whole list of
excellent, professional trainers that know their stuff and
WHO AREN’T AFRAID TO TACKLE DIFFICULT HORSE PROBLEMS!

I would also urge you to get and read the
Jesse Beery Course on Horse Training.  No other
single work has helped more horse owners
than this course.  And that’s a fact.

In fact, most successful horse trainers worth
their salt today cur their teeth on the
Jesse Beery Course.  You might be surprised
at how many use it today for their foundational
training program.  They might call it
something else but the base methods came from Beery.

Read more here:

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/beery/

The professional trainers we feature are not
the “touchy-feely” type of trainers
you find other places.  They know their
stuff and teach it well to you.  Effective
methods you can use today.

Real, professional trainers.  Solving real horse
problems.  Using solid, effective, non-abusive
methods that work and will stick.

Isn’t that what you really want?

So DON’T put up with anything less than
a well-trained, respectful horse and keep
from putting yourself in danger.

Enjoy your horses and safe riding.  It’s so
much more fun and uplifting.

Make the decision to do something about
those problems you’ve been ignoring.

We’re here to help you with it all.

Charlie

2. April Understands. Do You?

=====================================================

1. Happy Independence Day!

For all you in the US – Happy Independence Day!

This is a day to reflect and celebrate our great
heritage.  Don’t take our freedoms for granted.
There are many who seem to want to restrict them
and control us more.

Our country was founded on strong principles and a
desire to get away from government oppression and
we built a framework for living in freedom.  We not
only need to celebrate that but also protect and
defend those freedoms.

Also – please keep our service men and women in
your prayers.  They put their lives on the line
to defend the freedoms we enjoy here.  Thank them
anytime you see them – they need our support.

Pray for them and for their families.  The families
are sacraficing right along with them and need
our support.

Wherever we live – we must treasure and defend
Independence and freedoms.  So many today don’t
understand the difference between true freedom
from tyranny and oppressive governments and are
willing to trade it for security and look to
the government for provision.  It’s a slippery
slope that threatens all we have for since
our founding fathers.

Lord bless your family today!  Enjoy it!

–Charlie

2. April Understands. Do You?

Here’s a great letter from April:

See if you can sense her enthusiasm and how much
she is enjoying working with her horse.

Her note is a real encouragement for all of us.

You can learn a lot just reading her letter and
understanding where her heart is.

————

“Hi Charlie,

I have my answer already!  I had the question of trailering a colt.

The good news is I have already trailered my yearling fairly well.
It was a difficult experience for him.  It was not something he
was or could of been prepared for.  I sure wished I could of but
circumstances called for him and his mother to be moved quickly.

The cool thing is when my yearling arrived at his new home he was
tired and all the prep work I have done with him for months, has
paid off!  He was afraid but trusted me!  He was scared but
followed me!

Even though this was new to both of us, all I have learned and
applied has been rewarded with an awesome new experience!

I can’t stress enough that people need to spend time with their
horses and be patient.  Develop the relationship and trust with
their horses. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Horses truly know when you’re impatient.  I know we have busy lives.
I do.  I spend 15 minutes some days and 3 hours some other days.
They know I love them.  I feed them, protect them and groom them,
I also ask things of them and they now enjoy working with me.

All I can say that spending time with your horse and being patient
with them is the answer. Find out what your horse needs and is
looking for you won’t regret getting to know them.

I have loved reading the books of Jesse  Beery Horse training
books, I have bought your DVD and the Pulley Breaking Bridle.
I can’t stop raving about what I am learning and have applied
to handling my horses.  I  enjoyed watching your DVD.  It makes
the book come alive with real situations and seeing it done.
I haven’t used the bridle yet.  I know it will come in handy.
It just makes sense.

Thanks for your helpful e-mails.  Thank you for the time you
spend reading our letters and giving us your time.

Sincerely a Happy Customer,
April W.”
