The Horse Training Secret Of The Bird Balancing on a Wire

“The Horse Training Secret Of The Bird Balancing on a Wire”

You’ve seen a bird perched on a wire
before, right?

He’s perfectly upright.

Not too far forward. Not too far back.

What would happen if he was too far
back or forward?

Obviously, he’d probably fall and have
to regain his balance.

But when he’s in balance, he’s sitting
there perfectly.  No wavering.  No straining.
No problem.

Now let’s take that analogy and apply
to our horse.

When your horse is in the bridle, you
want him balancing off it like the bird on the
wire does.

That means when your horse feels the
“slightest” pressure, he moves off it and
adjusts to where there is no pressure.

Just like the bird on the wire that
leans forward or backward to adjust its balance,
so does the horse in the bridle.

As you can imagine, the horse must be
well trained to be that sensitive to the pressure.

But OH!!!,…what a great horse to ride.

I love this analogy of the bird on the
wire.  But I gotta be honest and tell you…it’s
not my brain child.

Nope.

It came from Kenny Scott.

World Reining Champion

Kenny Scott is a Colorado horse trainer
who has won the world competition in reining.
Plus, he’s won so many other competitions that
he’s got trophy’s coming out of his ears.

The video is about controlling all four
corners of your horse.

Kenny’s trained nearly all his life. Horse
training is all he knows.  And Man!…does he ever
know it!

When Kenny describes the bird on the wire
analogy, he’s really talking about collection.

I’ve talked about collection before.

Ultimately, collection is where your
horse is balanced, you have control because he’s
waiting to be told what to do, his hind legs
are under him doing the driving, his front legs
are light and responsive for turning, and so on.

Enjoy the full Kenny Scott video.  It’s one lesson
after another in training principles and golden
nuggets you can base your training on.
