Dream Horse or Bad Dream? And What is 39 27 32?

1. “Dream Horse or Bad Dream?”

2. What Is 39 27 32?

————
1. “Dream Horse or Bad Dream?”

Remember when you used to dream of having the perfect horse and only wanted to enjoy him?

Maybe it was just working around the stable, grooming, or doing some groundwork.  Or perhaps you dreamed of taking fun, leisurely rides on the
trail or through the countryside.

You’re not alone – millions dream that way and hope to be there some day.  Some are living that dream today.  For a large majority, though, it isn’t
working out quite like they had hoped.

For whatever reason – whether it is time or lack of experience – you could be improving your experience and enjoying your horse a lot more
if you would take just a little time to learn a bit more.

I have “preached” for years about how anyone’s problems with their horses could improve within weeks if they’d just make a simple plan.

Here’s a solid way to success with your horses:

1. List the top 3 or 4 things you know you have to work on with your horse.  Whatever bad habits or issues you know you have with him.  Maybe
it’s turning, stopping, yielding to pressure, disrespect, or a dozen other things.

2. Take only the TOP thing and work on that.  Make a simple plan, dedicate the time, and don’t work on anything else except that ONE thing.

Chances are you’ll need some help figuring out how to fix it.  That’s the primary reason we offer so many different DVDs by professional trainers to help you through these issues.

3. Only when you and your horse are ready, go on to the next one, then the next one…   (wash, rinse, repeat)

The critical thing is to only work on and fix one thing at a time.  Otherwise you’ll confuse your horse.

Be sure to love on and praise your horse when he even starts to give you the right response.  Make sure he knows right away he’s doing something right.

And remember, it takes many repetitions to teach right habits.

NEVER encourage the wrong response or it will become a bad habit.

Seriously, you CAN do it.  Even if you’re about to throw in the towel and are so frustrated with what has transpired with your horses.  Just take it a
step at a time and don’t let your horse sense your frustration – but rather, let him sense your determination to work through it.  When you aren’t concerned with a dozen other things you can focus on that one thing.

Horses pick up on your emotions more than you might think.

Our professional trainers can help.  Look over the DVDs we offer.  Also – one BIG thing to watch for:

Watch the mannerisms of the trainer – their voice inflections, their body language.  Observe their confidence and how that affects the horse during the training.

Then – go and do likewise!  But please, do it all safely.

To your success,

2. What Is 39 27 32?

It’s My Anniversary Sale!

27 years ago I walked the aisle with Allyson.

5 kids, lots of great memories and a few trials later, here we are.  We have only two kids left at home (full time that is- if you have young 20+
year olds you’ll understand that).

Ya know, through the differences and the ups and downs, I can honestly say that I couldn’t have found a better help mate or someone who is as dedicated to the family as her.  I’ve written much about her before so will spare you this time.

Except for this: Allyson completes me.  She enables me to do what I do best.  She’s a committed Christian, a loving wife, a mother of 5, a home school mom and helps with the business.

Combined, that makes her amazing. ’nuff said.

So Charlie, what is the 39 27 32?   Thought you’d never ask!

And no, it has nothing to do with her physical attributes!

Let’s take 27 first.  If you haven’t figured out that by now – it’s 27 years of marriage.

So it’s only fitting to use 27% as a discount for ANY DVD we have on our website.

39?  That’s the typical price of most of our single DVDs that we offer.  Select whatever DVDs you want and you’ll see the price.

And finally 32?  When you order two or more DVDs you get an ADDITIONAL 5% OFF.

How did I get 32%  Well, it’s 27 years + 5 kids = 32.   Pretty creative, uh?  OK, OK….

So let me recap how you can take advantage of this Anniversary Sale:

Go to the Videos/DVD part of our website here:

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/DVD.html

You can click on and read through the descriptions of each of our professional trainers.  Then select “Add to Cart” for the ones you want.  Each of them will be put into the shopping cart.

Then, to get your appropriate discount use these coupon codes:

A27 – for one DVD selection this will give you 27% OFF

A32 – If you select 2 or more DVDs this coupon code will get you 32% OFF as many as you have in your cart.

http://www.horsetrainingresources.com/DVD.html

OK?  It’s simple.  Just enter A27 or A32 in the Coupon Code box on the checkout form and be sure to click Apply.

And that, my friends, is how you help us celebrate our Anniversary!  Thanks for joining in.  And, thanks for your business.

Allyson and I will spend part of a day away from the kids to enjoy some time together, have a nice dinner and all.  These times alone are too rare
but much appreciated.

— Charlie

P.S. By the way –
this Anniversary sale is only for those who get my horse tips emails.  You will NOT see these coupon codes on the website anywhere.

“What Your Horse ‘Really’ Thinks Of You”

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

“Hi Charlie,

Just had to comment on this one because I spent years
ignorantly doing all the wrong things…allowing my
horse to get in my space, eating out of my hand, and
giving lots of treats.

I got away with it MOST of the time but definitely had
problems I didn’t realize I had created.

I now have a 4 year old who I have been with since he
was foaled from our mare.  I learned EARLY to not let
him get in my space…He’s  always been a “Will Rogers”
of  horses: never met anyone he didn’t like and I spent
so much time with him, he thought I was his playmate
and ran up to me one day when he was about 3 months
old & rared up!!   That taught me a big lesson..

I also used to give our horses treats all the time.
They learn that quickly & come to expect them & often
act up if you don’t give them.  So now I give them
rarely enough that they never expect and always give
them  BEFORE I go trail riding so they won’t be in a
hurry to get back to the barn for a treat.  I don’t
even let them eat grass when I’m holding their lead
ropes anymore.  It has made a huge difference in the
way they regard me.

Sincerely,   Kim H.”

Folks – Unless you have the respect of your horse and
maintain control you are in danger.  You just never know
when your horse will crowd you, bite you, kick, strike
or even run over you.  And it all starts by you letting
them get away with the little things.

Please don’t take chances and become another statistic.

The Moral of the Story In Horse Training

This incredible story reminds me of an important horse training principle.

His name was Donald Morehouse.

While in combat in the Korean War, he was shot 7 times.

But 6 rounds never made it into his body due to a bullet proof vest.

But one bullet pierced him.

It went through his left shoulder and lodged in his right side.

Wounded, Morehouse hiked to a M.A.S.H. unit to get the bullet removed.

48 years later, Morehouse had heart bypass surgery.  That was in 2001.

Doctors found a shocking discovery.

Calcified scars showed that the .29 caliber bullet removed from his side in 1953 actually…

“Passed through his heart!”

Doctors said most people would’ve died within minutes of the wound.

Morehouse walked 3 miles and lived.

The reason this has an important connection with horse training is because you often don’t know just how lucky you were.

Morehouse probably thought he was lucky to be alive back in 1953 – but I’ll bet after the heart surgery, the surprising news really hit home.

But with horses, we often don’t know how lucky we have it while working with them.

Why?

Because horses are typically very forgiving and can put up with a lot of nonsense.

But like us humans, they have their limit.

And it’s their limit you want to be careful of going past.

Trainer J.J. Rydberg has a great saying.

He says:

“If you’re mad, the horse is already mad!”

Why does this matter?

First, you can’t fight the horse.

You will not win.

And if you have a battle going, then you don’t want to lose it because you’ll teach your horse he can do what HE wants.

So the trick is, don’t get in a battle in the first place.

Thus, here’s some things to think about.

If you’re working with your horse be aware of signs that he’s getting unhappy.

Yes, unhappy.

Tail swishing.

Pawing.

Head bobbing up and down in a quick motion.

Tight lips.

Ears layin’ back.

Teeth grinding.

Tight body.

And so on.

Will your horse show all these signs?

No.

He’ll likely show some of them if he’s gettin’ unhappy.

As you work with him and you see one of the signs, just make a mental note to yourself.

You know that what you’re doing has started to irritate him.

Should you stop there?

Not necessarily.

You can keep trying, but be aware of his emotional state.

If you get the same signs and they’re more frequent and closer together, then do what J.J. recommends.

Back off.

Let him have control and feel good.

Walk him around.

If you’re riding him, ride with loose reins for a bit.

Why?

Cuz it doesn’t feel good to get tugged on all the time.

Would you like it?

Heck, he may just be a horse but he doesn’t like what’s going on.

https://www.horsetrainingresources.com/dvds/jjrydberg-problem-solving/

And if you’re working from the ground, just lead him around a little.  Do some things he already knows and bring his confidence back.

Before you go back to trying what you were doing, check his emotional state.  If he’s good, then try it again.

Remember that you may not get the response you want.  You may only get a try.  And you may have to live with that for the day.

And as I’ve said before, that’s okay.

There’s no reason to get in a hurry, right?

After all, if you do, it’ll put you way behind.

Just remember that.

Getting in a hurry will put you way behind.

But going slow will get you the fastest results.

And this is the wisdom of J.J. Rydberg.

J.J.  teaches horse training at his local college – and I urge you to read more about him. He’s quite good.

You can see more about him by clicking the following:

jjrydberg-problem-solving

And here’s another piece of golden wisdom J.J. will tell you.

It’s easy to get frustrated when teaching a horse something at first.

Why?

Because they don’t have a clue as to what you want.

But…

Keep messin’ with ’em and they will.

jjrydberg-problem-solving

Ok…  that’s it for today.  Stay safe around your horses!

What Your Horse ‘Really’ Thinks Of You

What Your Horse ‘Really’ Thinks Of You

Margaret Thatcher once said:

“No woman will, in my time, be prime minister.”

As you likely know, Maragart Thatcher became prime minister.  And she did it 10 years after she said this.

Why does this matter.

It appears that maybe she didn’t believe in herself.

I find a lot of people don’t  believe in themselves when they work with their horses either.

You’d be surprised at some of the mistakes people make with their horse.

When people make mistakes with their horse they fall into the trap of not believing in themselves.

But mistakes are just that – mistakes.

They don’t label the mistake maker. The person making the mistake just didn’t know any better.

And if they did, they probably forgot.

Take these mistakes for instance.

Professional trainer Sam Burrell was asked what mistakes he sees people make the most.

One of the most common he sees is people not establishing leadership with their horses.

http://horsetrainingresources.com/dvd-samburrell.html

If you didn’t know better, you’d be shocked what problems that causes.

The rule of thumb to remember is whatever leadership you have on the ground is the same leadership you have in the saddle.

And if your horse pushes you around on the ground, imagine what he’ll be like in the saddle.

That, my friend, is the dangerous part.

It’s sort of the equivalent of a kid telling you to buzz off but with a horse that weighs a thousand pounds…there’s a remarkable
danger in it.

You see, you need your horse listening to you.

You need your horse responding to your aids. (Provided he knows what they mean of course)

You need your horse being in agreement with what you want.

Without all that, you’re in danger.

I just can’t say enough of how important it is to have your horse understanding you are the leader.

You gotta be very clear on this with him.

There is no gray.

If he’s too close to you, get him away.

This isn’t a time for being lovey-dovey.

It doesn’t mean you can’t love on your horse if you want to.

If you want to love on him, then go to his space – don’t let him come into yours.

And here is one the most profound things you’ll hear a horse trainer say…and Sam said it to me.

People think if you pet a horse a lot and give him lots of treats, the horse will be okay – but here’s the thing.

You don’t really know what a horse thinks of you until you ride him.

That’s when you’ll know.

It’s like having your own private lie detector to reveal what he really thinks.

And if he’s runnin’ the show, you gotta go back to square one and get him on board with you.

He’s gotta know that what YOU say goes. No if’s, and’s, or’s, or butt’s.  You make the decisions.

Sam reveals much more if you want to more more.  Just click on the following:

http://horsetrainingresources.com/dvd-samburrell.html

You should know I’ve had people send me nasty emails saying they give their horses treats all the time and love on their horse without any problems.

That’s okay.

Just no treats from your hands.

Put the treats in the feed bucket and let him get it.

Some people have said they feed treats from the hand and have had no problem with their horse.

True, there are exceptions, but they are so few that this rule should be abided by.

Don’t take a chance with these types of things.

http://horsetrainingresources.com/dvd-samburrell.html

That’s it for today….stay safe out there.
