Tipping Your Waitress and Horse Training

“Tipping Your Waitress and Horse Training”

Betcha didn’t know this.

In Iceland, tipping at a restaurant
is considered…

“An Insult!”

Strange, eh?

Don’t know about you, but I’m used to
tipping people according to a job well done.

To NOT do it is an insult.

But in Iceland, it’s the opposite.

You just never know what you don’t
know.

Same goes for horses and horse training.

You never know what you don’t know.

I’m still amazed at the stuff I learn
as I meet with new trainers.

I discovered long ago if I can learn
just one thing….one little thing…then I
will better myself another notch.

When I got together with Kenny Scott
I got even more horse education.

Especially in the interview I did
with Kenny – I learned things I wouldn’t have
had I not listened to him.

And just as importantly, I was reminded
of good stuff I had forgotten.

For instance, you know how people say
that “Whoa” is the most important thing a horse
needs to know?

Kenny says going forward is the most
important thing.

I love it when someone says somthing
contrary to what everyone else says because it
makes me stop and think about it.

After all, Kenny’s won the World so I’m
gonna listen to what he says.

And why does he say going forward is the
most important thing?

Because a horse needs to move.

And the idea of riding is teaching the
horse to follow his head.

If he’s not moving forward, he won’t
follow his head and you won’t get him to do
anything.

And another important tip is this.

If he doesn’t know to move forward
very good, he won’t have the “wanting to stop”
as you exercise him.

You see, one of the ways to teach a
horse to stop is to not stop.

Don’t ask him to stop for a while.

Instead, keep him moving.

After a while, he’s gonna want to stop.

He will appreciate it.

And unless you were able to get him going
forward and doing it well,…the stop won’t be as
appreciated.

And he therefore won’t be looking for
the stop as readily.

Personally, I like that way of thinking
that Kenny does.

Next, here’s a little gold nugget Kenny
tells in his interview that a lot of people don’t
get.

And that is this.

Eventually, the horse will get bored with
what you have him doing and he’ll look for something
else to do.  So we add a degree of difficulty to
offset that.

Have you ever thought about that?

It’s been my experience…and I’ve heard other
trainers say it….a horse needs to be entertained or
they will look for ways to do it.

When I say entertained I simply mean they need
something new to do or they get bored.

A bored horse doens’t learn as well and is
harder to train and therefore ride.

Thus, keep it interesting for your horse but
don’t make it too hard.

As Kenny says, add a degree of difficulty.

Over time, the degrees of difficulty you
added will make your horse a better and safer ride.

trainers?

Here’s another valuable tip Kenny reveals.

When you ride, imagine a plumb bob going
from your shoulders to your hips.

Your shoulders and hips need to be in a
line.

Why?

Because it’s the most athletic riding pos-
ition to use.

It’s the safest, easiest, and most correct.

It’s like putting yourself in position to
recieve a serve from a tennis ball.

When you recieve a tennis ball serve, you
want to be in position.  You want to be as ready
as you can be.  You must be in an athletic position.

Same with riding a horse.

What Is Your Horse Capable Of?

“What Is Your Horse Capable Of?”

It’s amazing, really.

The chamois – a goat-like mountain
antelope can do something no other animal can.

What?

It can balance itself on a point
of rock…

“the size of a quarter”

Astonishing, isn’t it?

Sometimes I’m amazed what animals
can do.

I’m still amazed at what horses can do.

The other night, I was watching a
program on TV.

They showed horses that were trained
to do all kinds of things.

One thing the horses did was jump in
the air with all four feet.

The front feet kicked forward, the
back feet kicked back.

All while the rider was on his back.

This is nothing new.

It’s what horses were trained to do
hundreds of years ago to help take out enemy
soldiers.

Still, it’s incredible to watch a
horse do this.

Truly, horses are capable of great things.

Do you know what your horse is capable of?

Truth told, lots of people don’t.

In fact, I find most people don’t know
what their horse needs or where there are holes
in his training.

By holes, I mean that there are specific
training issues the horse needs help with.

To know, you must evaluate your horse.

When you evaluate your horse, there are
several things to look at.

In fact, you’d be shocked what you should
look at.

We filmed Vickie Weigel showing how to
do an evaluation to give folks a good under-
standing how to do it.

For instance, Vickie says to start by
looking at attitude and personality.

Then find out what he knows as far as
his education.

When Vickie evaluated the horse in her
DVD, she got in the round pen with him.

When she did, she noted his ears were laying
back.

What does that mean?

More or less that he’s not happy.

It could be that he’s not sure what’s going
on today.  Plus, he didn’t know Vickie (and she didn’t
know him.)

Another possibility?

He may be hurting somewhere.

A great place to start evaluating your horse,
then, is to check for pain.

Vickie started by running her hands down
him to see if he flinches or runs from it.

Will this be hard to see?

Not really.

If you watch you can see a horse flinch
away from pain.

Next, she felt the legs and messed with them
a little to check for swelling or soreness.

This is an area to be very careful because
if you work with a horse who’s legs are not used to being
worked with,…you could get kicked and hurt terribly.

It’s also important to note that the horse
vickie worked with was standing free in the round
pen.

Why is that important?

Because he can leave anytime he wants.

Why is that important?

Because if he’s hurting, you can tell he
wants to get away.

Thus, if you hit a sore spot then the horse
will flinch or may take off trotting…which is okay.

Now here’s something important to get.

If the horse took off trotting after this,
he may be sore.

If you didn’t know he was and you became
upset with him and made him do what you wanted
anyway,…can you see that you put yourself in great
danger?

What if your horse was sore and you got
cranky with him and saddled him anyway?

He could bite.

Buck.

Rear.

Or, he may ride fine until the very end
of the ride where his pain tolerance is reached
and just before you get off….

“WHAM!”

He bucks.

You go bye-bye.

Had you known he was sore you could’ve
avoided that.

Plus, if you didn’t know he was sore
you could think this was a problem in his training
and he needs worked with.

And in fact, that’s not it at all.

Can you see the value in knowing how to
evaluate your horse?

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Vickie shows a lot more than this in her
DVD.

I might add that the owner of the horse
in this DVD complained that the horse likes to
rear up while being ridden.

Turns out that Vickie discovered the horse
was a little back sore.

He may need a Chiropractor.

Is Your Horse Listening?

1. Is Your Horse Listening?

2. The Pulley Bridle Works!

*************************************************************

1. Is Your Horse Listening?

Ever had a teacher mad at you?

Who hasn’t…right?

I distinctly remember getting the
tops of my hands slapped by a teacher’s ruler
in 5th grade.

Don’t remember if I deserved it or
not.  I guess I did………..?

I remember going to the principle’s
office for something I did in 3rd grade.

While I sat in “The Chair” next to
his office waiting for him I thought time
had stopped.

I was a scared little dude.

In college, I had a professor embarrass
me in front of the whole class because while he
was lecturing….

“I was reading
a newspaper!”

There I was…lost in the writer’s
thoughts while I read.

The student next to me elbowed me.

I looked at him with a “Why’d you do
that?” look?

He pointed to the teacher.

I looked up.

The teacher was scowling at me.

He said something about disrespect while
he’s trying to teach and “How Dare You!” read the
paper in “MY” class.

Blah, blah, blah.

Okay, okay.  So I should’a been payin’
attention.

But I was young.

I had my mind on other things.

I wasn’t in the habit of payin’ attention.

Funny thing is, horses can be just like
that.

Especially young ones.

In his manual, Jesse Beery says:

“A horse, like a young student, cannot
learn anything looking away and not
paying attention to the teacher.”

Thus, it’s critical you have your horse’s
attention.

Something I want you to practice on is this.

Get your horse to listening and following
what the bit is saying.

Get his mind on that.

You see, since horses can’t multi-task
their attention, that’s an advantage to you.

That’s an advantage you ALWAYS want.

If there’s something going on near the
horse that could upset him but you have him giving
his head where he’s paying attention and is focused
on you…he’s not too worried about things like a
running rabit, a scary bush, or whatever.

This is key advice Linda Braddy revealed
in her video. To read about her video,

The more you get your horse paying attention
to you the more that will be habit.

In fact, anytime your horse isn’t paying
attention to you, you should ask for it back.

Why?

You ALAWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS want him knowing
you’re next to him or on him.

I know of countless stories about people
getting bucked off because the horse actually
forgot he had a rider on him.

This is especially true for green horses.

Keep their attention on you and let ’em
know you’re there.

2. The Pulley Bridle Works!

Jesse Beery developed many different training aids over
the years while he was mastering his horse training methods.

One of the most effective aids ever used was his now-famous
“Pulley Bridle”.

With it, horse owners can get their horse’s attention
and stop their bad habits within minutes.

Hundreds and hundreds of testimonials have been given on
the basis of the success of this bridle alone.

Ever since we started making these over 2 years ago
we have received dozens of unsolicited testimonials.

Horse owners who have spent weeks and months (sometimes years)
trying to rid their horses of pesky habits or dangerous
behaviors have been nothing short of AMAZED with how well
the bridle works.

In most cases it takes only 2 or 3 quick jerks to stop the
horse doing what they shouldn’t be doing.

Problems like rearing, won’t allow their feet to be
picked up, won’t stand for grooming, moving while you
try to mount, and many, many more…  are simple fixes
with the Pulley Bridle.

We sell these bridles with a 12 page instruction book but it
does help to have the Jesse Beery books as well.

This bridle is frequently used in conjunction with the other
training methods.
